5.1.4.6: Labeled Emergency Exits

In centers, required exits should be clearly identified and visible at all times during operation of the child care facility. The exits for egress should be arranged or marked so the path to safety outside is unmistakable.

RATIONALE

As soon as children can learn to recognize exit signs and pathway markings, they will benefit from having these paths of egress clearly marked. Adults who come into the building as visitors need these markings to direct them as well (1).
