Safe Sleep Practices and SIDS/Suffocation Risk Reduction

Safe Sleep Practices and SIDS/Suffocation Risk Reduction

This document is a compilation of 37 nationally recognized health and safety standards from Caring for Our Children: National Health and Safety Performance Standards; Guidelines for Early Care and Education Programs, 3rd Edition, 2011 (CFOC3)* on safe sleep and reducing the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)/suffocation in child care and early education settings.

Standards are listed in order of relevance to the topic. For this reason, the 37 standards are not necessarily in numerical order as they are presented in CFOC3. Throughout the document there are references to other standards contained in the full edition of CFOC3. For example, in Standard 5.3.1.1: Safety of Equipment, Materials, and Furnishing, the Related Standards section refers to Standard 3.4.6.1: Strangulation Hazards (which is not provided in this document, but can be found in the full edition at http://cfoc.nrckids.org/).
